Convinced that the main foundation of this story includes passive powers, inherited wills, karma, reincarnation, and so much more, just judging from most anime that I’ve seen.
This is why this article needed to be written because Monkey D Luffy is the epitome of all of these things put together.
Below I will be detailing my theory of Luffy not only having an additional devil fruit as Blackbeard does but speculating exactly what it is.
Manga Spoiler Disclaimer
Warning: Before reading the contents of this webpage ‘SPOILERS‘. Please keep in mind this article, along with other articles, there will be Manga theories and images from chapters YET to be released in anime format.
Devil Fruits can eat Other Devil Fruits!
We’ve seen it before in the earlier episodes, such as in Alabasta. “Lassoo” being Mr. 4’s gun who was fed a dog fruit, and the second instance being Spandam of CP-9 having a sword who was fed the elephant fruit, creating his sidekick Funkfried in the process.
It has been shown before that inanimate objects can consume another devil fruit. I could see devil fruits being fed to one another through some unknown process, ultimately giving the fruit multiple properties. Karma-Karma No Mi: The Reincarnation Fruit
When the essence of the fruit is in someone who passes away, that’s when the ability to transfer your will and to be reborn. In theory, the fruit is not reborn into another fruit. It is instead passed through ‘The Will of D’.
Luffy is constantly winning battles that he should, in no way, be able to win. And he pulls through in instances where the people who received his wrath truly deserved it.
The 12 Laws of Karma
Sengoku “THE BUDDHA”
Now we are reaching onto DF that are on different levels than we’ve seen so far. The fleet admiral himself is a prime example. If they can make fruits that resemble the power of deities, mythical creatures, intangible forces, etc then having a karma fruit would be in the realm, of possibility!
Themes of Reincarnation in Anime
ONE FOR ALL – My Hero Academia
Similar to the way this quirk from the anime compiles powers from the previous owners, so does the ‘karma-karma no mi’. The fact this anime and another anime I mention below have the same reincarnation theme. I’m willing to bet this will follow suit as well. In episode ___ we find out that Deku is to inherit 6 more quirks. I can’t help but see how his current power tree is a product of reincarnation of power and will.
All For One + One For All = DEKU & The Six Previous Holders of “OFA”
NARUTO SHIPPUDEN – Sons Of Haguromo The Descendants of Ninshu
From Ninshu to ninjutsu, the power of Otsutsuki has transcended time from the father of chakra to the sons. Breeding the seeds of hatred two at a time. That is until Naruto and Sasuke broke the cycle. Seeing the process, these two surpassed their own with their given power. They were only compatible because of the reincarnated souls that they bear.
Indra/Ashura – Madara/Hashirama – Sasuke/Naruto:
Naruto: Boruto Next Generations – Karma Seal
Boruto has been following lots of Hindu/Buddhist ways. From the Dojutsu of Ishiki to the actual reference of the power of karma, and the aspects of reincarnation. Slowly extracting and installing the foreign entity. Injected into the host as a DNA-based program.
Therefore once life has been extinguished, Using this program or ‘Karma Seal’ it can easily be reignited.
Ishiki – Kawaki
Momoshiki – Boruto
Joy Boy – Gol D. Roger – first incarnation – Monkey D. Luffy – 2nd/Final reincarnation of Joy Boy
Shanks – The Protector of joy boy
Shanks has not seen Luffy in years, yet he still keeps Luffy under his wing and looked after him. Just as we see in episode ____ or chapter _______, he approaches the Gorosei and asks for an audience with them. In the meeting, he requests that they leave the straw hat pirates alone. Even on smaller occasions when he gets news on Luffy’s rising in the pirate world. He never is shown holding back his excitement for the future pirate king, as he is seeing the times changing as predicted.
Uncle shanks will be the last stepping stone Luffy will have to face before he can make it to where he needs to go. He was picked by fate to help Luffy elevate to the top. Even past his currently unknown goals.
It’s just my guess and nothing here is a fact. However, we can’t ignore the fact that Luffy is an animal when it comes to power. Thinking back on all of his fights, Luffy has pulled off massive victories against opponents where he had zero chance of winning. Yet in the end, he still pulls it off. If anything, he’s just a lucky guy. But from my point of view, there has to be so much more.
