Will Kuzan Betray Blackbeard? Nico Robin Face to Face With The Blue Pheasant

Read Time:5 Minute, 26 Second

At first, I wasn’t 100% sure that Kuzan would be making an appearance in the country of Samurai but as the newest chapters are released, I am convinced that this theory might become a reality. My main point for writing this article initially was to present something that I wanted to see. And it couldn’t be helped since he’s one of the dopest characters created. And now I’m sensing something coming along that’s more than speculation.

From Ohara to The New World

Multiple encounters with Kuzan leave only one thing to understand; he is a man of many morals! From the devastation of Nico’s home island Ohara, as well as when he let the little girl flee to the island to which he was first introduced. He has since shown more of what makes him who he is. It foreshadows that he and the Straw Hats will cross paths, whether directly or indirectly. Kuzan destroyed the whole crew during the first run-in. However, in the end, he decides to let them escape sparing their lives. Just as Kuzan saved Smoker from Doflamingo in the Punk Hazard Arc, it seems as if he is on the move again. Wano is where he’ll most likely end up.

One Piece: Manga Volume. 34

Same Old Kuzan

After his defeat by Sakazuki and the loss of the promotion he was slated for, he leaves the Marines. At the end of the day, he will still have the same code, just a different approach. Especially considering the crew he’s currently aligned with. When Nico Robin shows up to save Sanji in chapter 1005 (Vol. 100) from Black Maria, Brook is there as well to set him free. Brook ices up the webs and they easily break apart. It’s here that we get the infamous “Devil Child” reference once again. It’s been a while since Kuzan has made an intro possibly prompting an update on “Blue Pheasant.” Since Kuzan has a good soul, he has already set out on his journey to make things right. Especially after experiencing many years in the military and seeing what they are capable of.

Is Kuzan A Part OF “SWORD”?

I don’t believe that Kuzan is a part of Sword. Or working in the same capacity as someone like X Drake. I believe that when he and Akainu battled for the position of fleet admiral and losing it had to have been a severe blow to his ideals and way of life. Kuzan in my eyes has not changed his current mission or values in life. Yet he has become what we would call a vigilante in One Piece. Seeing the man who committed horrible acts in Ohara become head of the marines possibly made him lose faith. As a result, he turned AWAY to deal with his OWN form of justice.

Former Title: Aokiji – The “Blue Pheasant

Lots of theories are spread across the internet talking about the Tale of Momotaro and how Eiichiro Oda has blended that tale into his One Piece lore. a story about a boy, Momotaro, along with a group of animals; a monkey, a dog, and a pheasant, set off on a mission to kill the Oni! So far we already have comparisons to each of these animals and if this theory is correct, then Kuzan himself will be taking on Kaido in the future chapter.

Momotaro – Momonosuke

Monkey – Luffy

Dog – Yamato

Pheasant – Kuzan / Aokiji

If Kaido is a Fishman or leviathan Zoan as I’ve speculated in one of my previous articles, then it would be crucial to have someone like this on your team. The crew would need to be able to stop Kaido from moving around in the water as we’ve seen with the Hie Hie no Mi (Ice-Ice Fruit)

Will Kuzan Betray Blackbeard?: Two theories Concerning Blackbeard and Aokiji

Lots of clues point to yes in the question of “will Kuzan betray Blackbeard”. Kuzan as an individual is not about to sit around and watch Blackbeard gain massive amounts of power. I feel that he has dedicated himself to a bigger role and still upholds some form of justice as I’ve spoken of previously and below are two examples.

Blackbeard Needs the Poneglyph in Wano

This would be killing two birds with one stone. In the sense of having a treasure chest right next to the key! Snatching up the Poneglyph while the worst generation fights two Yonko. Also using the chaos as a disguise to try and abduct Nico Robin.

Blackbeard will Kill Kuzan for Betrayal

Blackbeard could invade Wano amid all the chaos. To not only retrieve road Poneglyph there but capture Nico Robin in the process. The pieces are literally on the table and there is still much going on. This would be a strategic victory as well as a heavy hit to the world as a whole. That’s not my main theory concerning this though. My main thought on this would be that in the middle of the operation, Kuzan will betray his captain and flee with Nico Robin. Only to be caught and killed by Blackbeard himself.

Kuzan Will Kidnap and Deliver Robin to Blackbeard

The secret knowledge from Ohara & the ability to read the road Ponyglyphs

One of the most important things to consider is the reason for Kuzan to make this move. He would not be delivering Robin to her death, only using her as a ploy to get into the graces of his captain. And just as Drake was almost killed after his loyalty was tested and failed in chapter 978, this is something that I feel could come into play. Considering Robin has the most coveted knowledge in the world. This makes her a very valuable piece to Blackbeard or any other powerful hands.

Conclusion

Whether being loyal to his code or being a vigilante. Or possibly still having a link to the world government and the disagreeable but slightly possible option that he is now a part of the SWORD organization. We can speculate that Aokiji will be making an appearance in a big way sometime in the series. I DO, however, believe this theory and lean on it a lot harder than I would most. This is because it just seems to be a very fitting way to reintroduce him back into the story. If Oda is incorporating the story of Momotaro then I’m betting on Kuzan being the pheasant!. Blackbeard will make his move and Kuzan will most definitely betray him
